Concerned About The Threat Of China And North Korea, Japanese PM Mentions The Importance Of Being Able To Attack Enemy Military Bases

JAKARTA - Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Saturday, Japan will strengthen the necessary defense forces, considering all options including the acquisition of attack capabilities of enemy bases.

In a speech at Japan's Ground Self-Defense Forces Base (GSDF), PM Kishida expressed concern about North Korea's rapid development of missile technology and China's military expansion.

As Japan revised its foreign and security policies, PM Kishida said all options would be on the table, the idea of giving the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) the ability to attack enemy military bases.

The idea of Japan having such an attack capability is particularly complicated because the SDF has strict limits on its use of force under the war-denying Constitution.

"Japan cannot ignore (North Korea's) recent developments and new technological advancements such as hypersonic glide weapons and missiles with irregular orbits", Prime Minister Kishida quoted Kyodo News on November 27 as saying.

"China continues to strengthen it's military 'without adequate transparency and is making unilateral efforts to change the status quo", he continued.

To note, the prime minister who took office in early October made the comments when he reviewed the GSDF at Asaka Military Base located in Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture, together with Defense Minister, Nobuo Kishi.
