200 Pet Arwana Fish Died Due To Floods In Kapuas Hulu

KAPUAS HULU - In addition to causing flooded settlements, floods in eleven sub -districts in Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan, residents' pet arowana fish also died. It is estimated that 200 arowana fish died due to the floods.

"More than 200 super red arowana fish belonging to residents in Semitau and Suhaid died in the pond due to floods," Semitau sub -district head Pane Pasogit was quoted as saying by Antara, Thursday, November 18.

"The arowana fish are already big and may already be in production," he continued.

Pane Pasogit raised the possibility that the residents' pet arowana fish died due to lack of oxygen and changes in water conditions due to floods.

According to him, the floods caused stagnation as high as one to one and a half meters in seven villages in Semitau District.

The floods that occurred since November 14, 2021, according to him, have caused 737 houses and 28 public facilities in the area to be inundated.

"The water was still rising tonight, even earlier at around 18:30 there was a strong wind accompanied by heavy rain and lightning," said Pane Pasogit.

According to the Kapuas Hulu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Wednesday, November 17, floods hit 11 of the 13 subdistricts in the Kapuas Hulu region and affected 13,959 families comprising 43,135 people.

The floods hit the districts of Batang Lupar, Badau, Suhaid, Semitau, Silat Hilir, Selimbau, Embaloh Hulu, Embaloh Hilir, Bunut Hilir, Jongkong, and Pengkadan in Kapuas Hulu Regency.
