BPBD Records 600 Families Affected By Flash Floods In Batu City, 174 Houses Are Submerged In Mud

MALANG - The Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that at least 600 families were affected by the flash flood that occurred in Batu City, Malang, East Java, Thursday, November 4.

"There are 600 families affected, with a total of 1,050 people affected", said Malang City BPBD Head, Alie Mulyanto, in Malang City, East Java, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, November 9.

Alie explained that the flood also caused damage to seven housing units, and two houses were swept away by the swift flow of the overflowing Brantas River.

In addition, he continued, there were approximately 174 houses that were submerged in mud due to the flash flood. The affected areas in Malang City include Jatimulyo Village, Samaan Village, Jodipan Village, and Polehan Village.

"The worst impact occurred in RW 9 Jatimulyo Village", he said.

He added, when the flash flood occurred, it was reported that approximately 400 residents of Malang City were forced to evacuate. For now, the refugees have started to return to their respective homes.

The Malang City BPBD noted that there were several needs needed by Malang City residents who were affected by the flash flood, including mattresses and kitchen utensils needed for cooking.

"Currently, cleaning efforts are ongoing. What is needed is mattresses and kitchen utensils, among them", he said.

Flash floods occurred in the Batu City area, East Java on Thursday at approximately 14.00 WIB. The flash flood caused quite a large impact at several points in the Batu City area.

Flash floods also affected the flow of the Brantas River in the Malang City area. Houses in the vicinity of the Brantas River were exposed to flood material and several houses were damaged until they were swept away by the current.
