JAKARTA - After surprising the public with the announcement of a lung cancer diagnosis at the end of the year, Barry Manilow is back with good news for his fans.

Through a post on Instagram, the 82-year-old singer-songwriter shared the latest developments regarding his health condition which is increasingly stable after surgery.

He shared a selfie showing him smiling widely. In the photo, he was wearing hospital clothes and was on a bed.

"Better today," Manilow wrote, quoting the caption of the upload, Monday, January 5.

The discovery of Manilow's illness is considered a medical fortune. Previously, the singer of the song "Copacabana" had suffered from bronchitis for several weeks.

Even though he felt recovered and had the opportunity to return to the Westgate Las Vegas stage, his personal doctor still asked Manilow to undergo an MRI as a preventive measure. The scan results actually found a cancer spot in his left lung that had to be removed immediately.

"As many of you know, I recently had a six-week bout of bronchitis followed by another five-week relapse. Although I have recovered from bronchitis and returned to the stage at Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure everything was okay," said Manilow.

Fortunately, the cancer was found in the early stages, so he did not have to undergo heavy medical procedures such as chemotherapy or radiation.

"MRI found a cancer spot in my left lung that needed to be removed. It's pure luck (and great doctors) that it was found so early. That's the good news," he added.

As a result of this medical procedure, Manilow was forced to postpone his January show schedule to focus on recovery. However, he ensured that he would return to greet his loyal fans in the near future.

He is scheduled to perform again at his second residence, Westgate Las Vegas, in a series of Valentine's weekend concerts from February 12 to 14.

Before this medical break, Manilow was known to be completing his last arena tour in the United States. He also just finished his last series of concerts in the UK, including a residency at the historic London Palladium.

In the midst of the news of his recovery, Manilow did not forget to slip in an important message for the public regarding vigilance over one's own health.

"And remember, if you have any symptoms... get tested!" Manilow concluded.
