Sam Smith Announces New Album Hazel Eyes, Releases Opening Single My Guy

JAKARTA - Sam Smith has officially announced the release of his fifth studio album, "Hazel Eyes", which is scheduled to be released on August 21.

Along with the album announcement, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter also released "My Guy" as the opening single.

The story of romance and the dynamics of life in New York City are the two main inspirations behind the creation of this album. The song "My Guy" itself is described as a touching love song.

Sam Smith said his latest song has a very deep and personal meaning for his musical career.

"This is a song that I feel like I've waited my whole life to write and sing. Written with beautiful friends one summer day in New York, this song just fell out of the sky," Sam Smith said, quoted by Billboard, Friday, June 26.

"In this sometimes cold and distant world, I hope you can feel the love and closeness of this recording. I tried to capture the glow and warmth of love in this song," he continued.

The four-time Grammy winner also called this his most personal work. Featuring a total of 12 tracks, the project was worked on with longtime collaborator Simon Aldred. Not only that, the album also involved contributions from Canadian singer-songwriter Feist, as well as multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily.

Sam Smith also took on a key behind-the-scenes role as a producer - a step he admits has given him spiritual and professional maturity in music.

"This album is a very special record for me. I have been writing it for over three years with a small group of my amazing close friends," he said.

"This album is very personal, and I feel like I've explored myself as an artist through making this album, through the role as a producer, to guiding this recording from start to finish and pushing myself at every opportunity," Smith concluded.
