Toll Road in Indonesia Reaches 3,128.3 Kilometers, Investment Nearly 800 Trillion

JAKARTA - Toll roads in Indonesia have an important role in improving the economy.

The barrier-free road is also an access point between regions spread across five islands in Indonesia, namely Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Bali.

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) noted that since 1978 to date, the total length of toll roads in Indonesia that have been operating has reached 3,128.3 kilometers.

This was conveyed by Minister PU Dody Hanggodo in his remarks at the Indonesian Toll Association (ATI) FGD in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12.

"Today, approximately 3,100 kilometers of toll roads have been operating, consisting of approximately 76 sections and managed by 54 toll road operators with an investment of nearly Rp. 800 trillion," said Dody.

According to Dody, behind the figure of hundreds of trillions there is capital that must be maintained together, namely trust.

He did not deny that toll road operators were indeed within the framework of very strict and comprehensive regulations and long-term contracts.

"The toll road operation agreement must be the reference for the government and the toll road business entity," he said.

For this reason, if there are proposals for new policies, Dody hopes that the team from the Toll Business Agency (BUJT) will be invited to discuss to mature this.

"We in the government must maintain legal certainty and contracts. BUJT must fulfill its obligations and contracts that have been made by the government must be equally respected and protected, including contracts that have been made by previous governments," said Dody.

"If it is necessary to be adjusted, we will go through legal and contractual mechanisms that remain valid with the improvement of service remaining as our main handle together," he explained.
