JAKARTA - Dream Theater is preparing a new album after they announced Mike Portnoy was returning as a fixed drummer in the band last year.

Through his Instagram account, Mike Portnoy reported that the recording process was ongoing, and he had completed a drum recording session for Dream Theater's new album.

"Today is my last day using this (drum) kit for a while. Yes, my drum (record) for #DT16 is over," wrote Mike Portnoy in the caption of the upload, Minghu, March 31.

"But that's just the beginning. Work will now continue in the coming months on guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals, percussion (not to mention writing lyrics, mixing, mastering, etc.)," he continued.

However, the 56-year-old drummer did not provide further information about the work on the new album. He said the initial information about the album was deliberately kept secret to surprise listeners.

"I really can't divulge anything anymore because we (deliberately) closed all the information at this early stage. But I would say that we will all be shocked and very happy with what we have made," said Mike Portnoy.

"We can't wait for all of you to hear this. But be patient, everything will be revealed in due course," he concluded.
