Music Observers Emphasize The Importance Of Morality In Plagiarism Cases

JAKARTA - The issue of song plagiarism has returned to public discussion. This time, it was suspected that he was a supporter of Paslon Ganjar-Mahfud in the 2024 Presidential-Vice Election.

Seven young women who are said to be members of the GM24 group uploaded a video clip of a song called Langit Bright aimed at supporting Ganjar and Mahfud. However, the song is very similar to the song After School from Weeekly, so the allegations of plagiarism are inevitable.

Responding to the issue of song plagiarism in Indonesia, music observer Denny MR emphasized the importance of morality for creators or songwriters.

According to Denny, there is a separate benchmark when a song is called the plagiarism of another song. However, the benchmark could be 'timed' by the creator, making it very difficult to prove.

"If the notation is exactly the same along the three biramas, it can be said to be plagiarism. But I don't think that's where the problem is. If the benchmarks are three banamas, they are called plagiarism, that's true. But musicians are smart people, so it could be before the three bireamas are turned around," said Denny MR when contacted by VOI on Tuesday, January 16.

"If I am more about the morality of the creator, it is not on the rules of plagiarism," he added.

Moreover, Denny saw that the case of song plagiarism never entered the realm of law in Indonesia.

Against some work called similar, he also considered it difficult to prove whether the songwriter was inspired by other songs or actually practiced plagiarism.

"Besides, in the creative world, especially in the music world, it's normal. It affects and inspires each other, that's been the case for a long time. Maybe that's why the three rules of the company emerged," said Denny.

"It's just that according to history, it's the same from ancient times, not new. I'm not justifying, but issues like this have always been like that," he continued.

Therefore, Denny sees the importance of morality in the creative world. With only that, the rapid development in the creator world as it is today can avoid plagiarism cases.

"Now what can't be tricked? It's not just a song, anything can be tampered with, especially when the times are getting more sophisticated. So, the grip is morality. If a creator has been ignorant of the problem of morality, it's finished, he will take out anyone for his creation, "concluded Denny MR.
