Sheryl Sheinafia Paints the Reality of Today's Couples in Dear Mr. Petty

JAKARTA - Musician Sheryl Sheinafia has returned to present a new work by depicting the ins and outs of today's couples through the song entitled Dear Mr. Petty.

Dear Mr. Petty is Sheryl Sheinafia's second song in 2023 and is the follow-up to Situationship which was released last March.

“The process of making this song was very fun. Discussing funny message notifications on cellphones, being blocked on social media and other platforms, and also about the tug-of-war between past and present stories," said Sheryl Sheinafia, quoted from Antara, Monday.

For Sheryl Sheinafia, the song describes the complex condition of today's couples amidst the onslaught of innovation in the digital era.

Not a few couples use social media as a battlefield for ego battles, experience digital breakups, and even have to see the push and pull of their ex's feelings.

Even so, the song Dear Mr. Petty also wants to show that digitalization can also help individuals to reflect and mature.

Recognizing immature characters and even realizing that her ex's behavior may be hurtful can ultimately help her move on and heal her heart. This can be seen in the lyrics of Dear Mr. Petty which read It's okay, It's Alright.
