JAKARTA - Two Hyundai Ioniq 6 units in the United States (US) were withdrawn due to potential problems in the rear-driven unit (Motor-Gear Drive Unit / MGDU).
According to Hyundai, as reported by Carscoops, April 26, the bolts in the MGDU units of the two cars may not be installed tightly (improperly torqued). This can trigger various serious problems, such as the appearance of noisy sounds while driving, bolts can damage MGDU houses and/or reductive teeth, locked or differential traffic jams, it can even suddenly lose power
Uniquely, this problem only occurred in 2 Ioniq 6 units produced between August 19 and 21, 2023. Hyundai has identified MGDU suppliers who were negligent in the process of tightening bolts.
After finding the problem, MGDU suppliers have implemented a new procedure to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
The Hyundai dealer will be said to be informing a digital recall on June 18, 2024. The affected owners of Ioniq 6 will also receive an official notification via a registered letter on the same date.
Affected owners are asked to take their vehicles to the nearest Hyundai dealer. The rear MGDU unit will be reimbursed free of charge. Hyundai will also provide replacement if the owner has spent the costs related to the problem.

Please note, that this is not the first recall Ioniq 6 faces in the US. At the end of March, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis issued a recall for 147,110 electric cars produced between 2021 and 2024. Of these, 18,017 units were Ioniq 6.
The recall was previously caused by potential damage to internal components in integrated charging control units. This damage can prevent the 12-volt battery from being charged and lead to overall power loss.
