Mazda CX-50 Hybrid, An Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Using Technology From Toyota

JAKARTA - The current Mazda CX-50 has been sold to the US and Chinese markets. The car, which is a size slightly larger than the CX-5, has a hybrid option, but who would have thought that the car carries technology from a competitor manufacturer.

Reporting from Drive, Jum'at, November 24, instead of using its own system, Mazda provides the model with technology from its competitors, consisting of engines, electric motors and batteries, which come from Hybrid Toyota RAV4.

The purchase of hybrid technology from competitors is not without reason. It is known that the mild-hybrid system developed by Mazda has weaker capabilities so that the use of fuel is less efficient.

Thus, Mazda CX-50 has a 2.5 liter 4-cilinder non-turbo engine with a CVT transmission system as well as a double electric motor and an all-wheel drive system, resulting in a combined power of up to 221 dk.

In China, the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is priced from 195,800 yuan to 239,800 yuan (around Rp429 million to Rp525.4 million).

Please note that Toyota holds a five percent stake in Mazda, and the two companies have worked closely with previous model and technology sharing, such as the Mazda3 Hybrid whose technology also comes from Toyota.

In Europe, the Mazda2 Hybrid takes a base from Toyota Yaris with an exterior and interior that hardly has any difference. This latest Mazda2 Hybrid is powered by Toyota's 1.5 liter 3-cylinder engine combined with a single electric motor, generating up to 114 dk of power. In terms of performance, this car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/hour in 9.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 175 km/hour.

Mazda CX-50 also shares the same assembly venue as the Toyota Corolla Cross in the US, namely in Alabama, which is operated by a joint venture between the two companies.
