JAKARTA Memories of today, six years ago, July 16, 2018, the Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Muhadjir Effendy emphasized that there will be no more image of a favorite school and refugee school. All existing schools will be equivalent to a zoning system.

Previously, Muhadjir often inflamed zoning policies as a lesson to reduce inequality in education systems in Indonesia. Muhadjir said the idea had good intentions. He wants to prevent the buildup of quality human resources in a certain area.

Uneven education in Indonesia has become a common secret. Existing schools - especially the country - are of high quality. This condition makes the school labeled as the favorite to be hunted. Problems arise.

Quality human resources actually accumulate in one place. Certified teachers and smart students gather together as one. Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir tries to offer a solution. Muhadjir no longer wants a favorite non-favorable school called a waste school.

He tried to promote a zoning system. A system for regulating the admission process of New Students (PPDB) is in accordance with the residential area. The policy is discussed so that students with good/high learning achievements generally from the background of rich families do not accumulate in one place.

The buildup makes schools labeled waste schools get poor. The schools are only inhabited by those who incidentally excel in less good/lower learning, generally from underprivileged families.

Muhadjir also saw for himself how people with low study achievements were forced to go to school far away. The reason is because schools near their environment cannot accommodate due to limited intelligence or underprivilegedness.

This condition made Muhadjir sad. The problem is like watching injustice. He also started implementing a zoning trial in 2017. The trial was deliberately carried out to find out the readiness of the Ministry of Education and Culture and its staff in anticipating the implementation of the New Student Admission (PPDB) zoning route.

"No one student should not get a seat, there should no longer be a favorite school or not. Everything must be made as evenly as possible because our program is a quality education equitable program. Each region has autonomy. So, make it run smoothly because the policy is only this year. The important thing is the spirit of the Permendikbud to be implemented. The implementation of the zoning system raises pros and cons. Those who pros think that children do not need to look for schools far from home. Those who are against it are no less numerous. They said the government implemented feasibility without looking first regarding the readiness of educational instruments.

Parents basically want their children to get the best education. That's why they target a lot of favorite schools. Schools that are in the zoning system are not the best schools and the quality of teaching staff is considered doubtful.

Muhadjir received all forms of criticism and input. However, he still emphasized that he would remove the label of favorite schools and exile schools on July 16, 2018. He remained at his initial commitment so that the existing education was equal.

"Every new program must get pros and cons. However, this zoning system is the government's choice to accelerate equitable distribution of the quality of education. If these three ecosystems synergize well, then students will be protected from negative influences, because there is good cooperation from schools, communities, and parents."
