GIM was also inflamed. The focus is on inviting all young people who have just graduated to devote themselves to the world of education. The service is done by recruiting, training, and sending them to remote areas of the country for one year.

The move made the name Anies Baswedan famous. Even young people are starting to be interested in doing things for Indonesian education. Young people can experience valuable teaching in remote parts of the country, while Anies Baswedan is increasingly famous as a scholar.

Even though using the name of teaching, for Anies GIM it is more than just teaching. In terms of idealism, GIM has two goals: filling the shortage of quality teachers in elementary schools, especially in remote areas; and preparing university graduates to become future leaders who have knowledge, experience and closeness to small people in remote parts of the country.

The name Anies Baswedan skyrocketed when Indonesia began to enter the 2009 presidential election political contestation. The KPU wants to perpetuate events that add to the 'flavor' of democracy in Indonesia. The debate between the presidential and vice presidential candidates was echoed. They began to choose who is the right moderator. Anies' name also appeared.

Anies' presence on the moderator list is not a coincidence. KPU is attracted by his track record. In fact, the winning team for the presidential and vice presidential candidates also perpetuated the same thing. A presidential debate moderator is required to emerge from professionals.

The KPU hopes that prospective moderators can issue their intellectual abilities in the debate. This is because the debate is not directed only to one issue, but various issues. From politics, government, and the economy.

Anies was also elected as the moderator of the first presidential candidate debate with the theme Realizing Good and Clean Governance and Enforcing the Supremacy of Law and Human Rights which took place on June 18, 2009 in Jakarta. Anies then guided the presidential candidate to compete in track records, works, and ideas.

At that time, Anies was able to mediate the debate between the presidential candidates, including Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Megawati Soekarnoputri, and Jusuf Kalla.
