The Ministry Of Education Encourages Artists To Attend The Classroom To Strengthen Young Generation Cultural Characters

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud) is preparing the School Attending Artist Movement Program, an initiative designed to strengthen student character through cultural values.

This program targets all levels of education and is part of an effort to produce a young generation with strong identity and is ready to welcome Indonesia Gold 2045.

Head of the Sub-Directorate for Empowerment of Cultural Values, Directorate for Empowerment of Cultural Values and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Culture, Bobby Fernandes, explained that the presence of artists in formal education is a strategic step to bring students closer to culture.

"We want artists to be present in learning spaces, so that culture is not only taught theoretically, but is practiced directly," he said during the Socialization of Strengthening Cultural Values in Cipanas, Garut Regency, West Java.

According to Bobby, schools have an important role in instilling cultural-based knowledge. Apart from teaching and learning activities, this program allows artists to work with schools to present authentic cultural practices. Collaboration between artists and schools is mutually beneficial. Artists acquire expressive space, while schools get support in strengthening students' character," he said.

Currently, the Ministry of Culture is finalizing the material and form of activities for the movement, which is targeted to start running this year or in 2026. Later, artists and teachers can design cultural projects that are adapted to local wisdom in each region. The project can be in the form of activities that instill values such as discipline, mutual cooperation, and appreciation for culture itself.

Bobby emphasized that Indonesia has many artists with great potential. The main challenge is not in numbers, but how to bring them to schools in a structured and sustainable manner. Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Culture has also prepared a legal umbrella so that this program has a strong basis. We are discussing the regulations, whether in the form of ministerial regulations, joint decrees, or even a presidential regulation. This is discussed across ministries," he explained.

Through the Artist Movement to Enter School, the Ministry of Education hopes that cultural education can be more lively, relevant, and integrated in students' daily lives, thus forming a young generation who knows the identity of the nation and is proud of its cultural roots.
