LSF Invites Indonesian Spectators To Independent Censorship Cultural Movement

JAKARTA - The Film Censorship Institute (LSF) of the Republic of Indonesia seeks to protect the Indonesian people by presenting a spectacle that is in line with the principles of society. Therefore, the LSF launched the Independent Censorship Culture National Movement.

This is regulated in Article 7 paragraph a of Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 18 of 2014 concerning LSF. The LSF as an Independent State Institution is also tasked with facilitating the development and advancement of film, the development of science and film technology, providing assistance in financing film appreciation and film filing.

LSF plays an important role in educating and providing navigation on watching movies to the public about proper viewing selection. Based on the annual records of the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) in 2023, the number of violence against Women was 289,111 cases.

The film Women from Rote Island by Jeremias Nganyoen tells a portrait of a woman experiencing injustice in her environment.

The joint viewing event was held by the LSF as a form of support for films by the nation's children which tell the story of victims of violence and sexual violence against women who have won various awards.

In addition, the film Women from Rote Island also represents Indonesia for the International Feature category at the Oscar 2025 event.

Through this film, I'm not only talking about Rote but Indonesia. I made this film for my mother and I think almost all countries have this problem," said Jeremias Nganyoen during a viewing together on Tuesday, December 3 at FX Sudirman, Jakarta.

With this event, LSF hopes that the public can increasingly realize that cases of violence against women are increasing and there is an effort to grow the best work of the nation's children.
