According To A Study, Having A Fixed Income Affects One's Confidence

JAKARTA – Whenever approaching the payday, a smile decorates on the face. Do you feel this? Based on recent research conducted by the National University of Singapore, having a fixed income can increase confidence and a special pride.

Reported from Medical News Today, Monday, April 12, the study links between fixed income and emotional effects. More surprisingly, a study conducted by Eddie Tong as chairman of the study and professor at the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences proved that income is closely related to one's emotions.

Professor Tong and his study colleagues conducted five separate analyses of 1.6 million people living in 162 countries. Research explores the emotional aspects that affect internal, external, and happy feelings.

Negative emotions in the study included anxiety and sadness. While positive emotions concerning self-esteem include pride, confidence, and determination.

"The more you earn, the more likely you are to feel emotions such as pride and confidence and the less likely you are to feel worried and sadness", Professor Tong said.

In a search looking for a link between income and externally directed emotions, the research team did not find that income was related to social emotions. That is, more income doesn't mean making you care more or less about others.

However, the influence of having a fixed income is more internal or feeling positive emotions.

By analyzing longitudinal data involving 4.000 people in the United States, researchers found that people on a fixed income tended to have positive self-esteem a decade later.

If the income relied on is smaller it is possible to make a person feel negative self-esteem.

Professor Tong and the team said the findings from the study's analysis targeted policies aimed at increasing people's average incomes and improving the economy in the long run.

Because both relate to emotional experiences that enable personal development, resilience, and achievement.

From this study, it was found that financial prosperity does have a positive effect on one's emotions that lead to internal aspects. But in external terms, it may not contribute to communal harmony or social relations.
