Extinction In Bukit Duri, 11th Film Joko Anwar With Amazon MGM

JAKARTA - Director Joko Anwar collaborated with Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) to announce the latest film entitled Extinction in Bukit Duri or The Siege at minimum high. This film is referred to as Joko Anwar's 11th film during his career in the film industry.

Joko Anwar and producer Tia Hasibuan through the production house Come and See Pictures marks this film as a new beginning as well as a new world that will be explored. The suspension in Bukit Duri became the first production film for MGM for Southeast Asia to be shown in theaters.

The 11th film symbolizes equality and starts a new beginning. After making the first film, I feel the need to make films more urgent and relevant to Indonesian audiences. I believe films can be something important from me as an Indonesian," said Joko Anwar at a press conference Monday, October 21, 2024.

"We know that Joko and Tia can provide experiences that are something meaningful for the audience. Not only are they relevant, resonances but also global and can be enjoyed by global audiences. A honor for us to work with Joko in developing the industry. This is not only the first collaboration with Joko but this is the first project for the first action thriller with an Indonesian film, "said Darakanda as an Amazon MGM representative.

The suspension in Bukit Duri is set in 2027 when the atmosphere in Indonesian society is volatile. A teacher named Edwin is said to be a substitute teacher in an exile school. The situation was complicated when the school where Edwin taught became a battlefield that threatened his life.

This film stars Morgan Oey as Edwin, Omara Esteghlal as Edwin, Hana Malasan as Diana, Satine Zaneta as Doti, Dewa Dayana as Geri, Fatih Unru as Rangga, Florian Rutters as Sean, Sandy Pradana as Anto, Faris Fajar Munggaran as Rayhan Wahyudi, and Farhadika as Jay Adiguna.

This manuscript was made by Joko Anwar in 2007, but its development has only begun to be carried out in recent years.

"The script is complete, I feel like this is a film that requires the maturity of both a filmmaker and technique. I'm waiting 17 years to weigh sharpening the scenario. I think it's quite mature to make this film," said Joko Anwar.

The film Puncakungan di Bukit Duri is planned to be released in Indonesian and global cinemas by 2025.
