JAKARTA - Kang Mak from Pee Mak is a remake of the popular Thai film Pee Mak which will soon be released in cinemas.

The director of Kang Mak from Pee Mak, Herwin Novianto, revealed the process of making a film that was eventually inserted with local wisdom to remain relevant and close to Indonesian audiences.

"We work collaboratively, not just with the director, scriptwriter but also the cast. Cross-generation from young to old so collaboration gets something different for the comedy," Herwin said at a press conference on Saturday, 3 August.

Indro Warkop, who stars in the film, said that the players were also challenged to present a distinctive comedy with a local flavor.

"Comedy is moving. Not necessarily me, who has mastered all of this for decades. The proof is that we can collaborate," said Indro.

Meanwhile, Indra Jegel, a comedian who is also involved in starring in this film, explained that the horror comedy film Pee Mak, which was released in 2013, is popular in Thailand.

Therefore, the remake of the Indonesian version of Kang Mak from Pee Mak, he continued, will not differ much from the adaptation.

"We know Thailand has a film that is thick with comedy, so this (film) must not damage the adaptation. Mario (Maurer) will be angry," said Indra Jegel.

Meanwhile, another star, Vino G. Bastian, appreciated the team behind Kang Mak from Pee Mak who managed to include local elements so that it appeared different from the adapted version.

"Honestly, it's because of the original filmmaker, but for me personally this is an honor and hard work together for mas Herwin to work on the joy because we can offer Pee Mak with a more Indonesian version," said Vino.

Kang Mak from Pee Mak tells the story of Mak, played by Vino G. Bastian, who goes to military service, leaving his wife Sari, played by Marsha Timothy, pregnant.

After serving, Mak returns home and finds his wife has given birth along with strange events that are present among Mak and his friends.

Kang Mak from Pee Mak is scheduled to debut in cinemas on 15 August.
