Review Of Barbed Fog Movies: Thriller's Mysterious Story With Local Wisdom

JAKARTA - Director Edwin and Netflix work together on the latest original film, Mist Berduri. Through this film, he collaborated with Putri Marino who made her acting debut in Edwin's previous film.

Tempt Berduri presents a row of top young actors with different characters here. The production of the film has been carried out in Kalimantan since last year and can be watched by Netflix viewers globally since Thursday, August 1.

Mist Berduri tells the story of Sanja (Putri Marino), a police officer who is transferred from Jakarta to the Kalimantan border. There, several cases of death of people without a head are being worked on by local police to find out who the mastermind is.

Sanja, who still feels unfamiliar with the situation, works under the leadership of Panca (Lukman Sardi), a firm local police chief. Sanja also cooperates with Thomas (Yoga Pratama) who has worked in the area for a long time.

Sanja also feels that investigating the mysterious death is not easy, because the investigation is related to several parties including local trust, human trafficking, to corruption.

It didn't stop there, Sanja was also faced with past trauma that came to him. Sanja began to strengthen himself to continue the investigation even though he was caught in an endless vortex of fog.

The story of a detective with a female main character in a foreign location makes this film full of intrigue. The combination of modern stories with a cultural side, namely Kalimantan, adds to the knowledge of life and dynamic beliefs that are still close to our country.

This combination has not been found much in the medium of the big screen, especially in Indonesia, as a result, making this film interesting to follow.

The cinematography also supports mysterious elements that are trying to be presented throughout the film, ranging from fog that fills the forest, a long house typical of Dayak, to rivers and downstream.

Putri Marino as the main character managed to mix with stories. She experienced well-presented trauma in this film. The character also shows how a woman experiences power inequality with men, especially in the work environment.

On the other hand, the tempo of the story feels slowly so that the audience may feel bored in the first half of the storytelling. However, overall this film can still be followed until the end of the story.

Berduri's fog adds one more Indonesian film full of exploration thanks to an unusual story. Elements of mystery, noir, and gore plus local wisdom made the film quite enjoyable.
