Lee Young Ae Returns To The Role Of Dae Jang Geum After 20 Years!

JAKARTA - For you Korean drama lovers, you are certainly no stranger to the drama Jewel in the Palace. The drama, which has another title, Dae Jang Geum, will reportedly have a second part.

Today, Tuesday, January 30, Fantagio announced that this drama will again star Lee Young Ae in the same role. They have also determined several cast and drama writers.

The hit historical drama Dae Jang Geum will shoot in October. With the main character Lee Young Ae being cast last June," Fantagio said.

"We just signed a contract with the drama writer," they continued.

This sequel is titled Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum which will tell Jang Geum's life as a doctor or uniyeo. This drama continued Jewel in the Palace which aired in 2003.

This sequel marks 20 years since the first part aired. As a result, the production team was even more enthusiastic to make the story continue with Dae Jang Geum.

Jewel in the Palace tells the story of the Chosun dynasty which is dominated by men in a social structure. Jang Geum is the first woman to become a doctor. Although he is from a lower class, Jang Geum struggles against discrimination by becoming a royal chef to become a doctor for the King.

Apart from Lee Young Ae, it is not yet known who will join Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum. Lee Young Ae has returned to Seo Jang Geum after acting through a number of dramas such as Saimdang, Light's Diary, Inspector Koo, and most recently, Maestra: Strings of Truth.

This drama is planned to air in 2025.
