JAKARTA - Singer and actor Harry Styles has finally made his dazzling debut at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) at the premiere of his latest film, My Policeman. According to Variety, Styles appeared at TIFF with co-stars Emma Corrin and David Dobson.

After its screening at the festival, not only the actors, director Michael Grandage received a standing ovation at Toronto's Princess of Wales theater after its premiere on Sunday, September 11 evening local time.

In a quick question-and-answer session, Styles discusses how he and his co-stars forged an authentic bond as friends on screen, and navigated several love scenes that show soul and body with the two.

"Having the basis of true friendship outside of character, I don't think (it) requires a lot of acting. In the more intense scenes, there's a lot of trust and security there," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 12.

At the climax of the event, director Grandage expressed his gratitude for the progress made in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. He also said that "there is room for further debate," referring to current threats to gay marriage and anti-trans laws.

Meanwhile, Grandage himself is best known for his work leading a number of stage play productions. In this film, he also took Gina Mckee, Linus Roache and Rupert Everett in the main roles.

Adapted for the big screen by Ron Nyswaner from the Bethan Roberts novel of the same name, My Policeman follows three young people – a gay cop named Tom (Styles); a teacher named Marion (Corrin) whom Tom married; and a museum curator named Patrick (Dawson), Tom's secret lover.

This story takes place in the 1950s in England. Fast forward to the 1990s, Tom (Roache), Marion (McKee), and Patrick (Everett) are still reeling with longing and regret, but now they have one last chance to repair the damage of the past.

My Policeman is one of two films starring Styles to debut on the film festival circuit this fall. She starred opposite Florence Pugh in Olivia Wilde's film "Don't Worry Darling", which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
