The Simpsons' Prediction About The Russia-Ukraine War Happened, Here's The Author's Response

JAKARTA - The Simpsons cartoon is back on social media. The war between Russia and Ukraine that is happening today has actually been depicted in the series.

In 1998, The Simpsons featured Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Netizens found that the story was the same and they called this cartoon once again successful in predicting the future.

The Simpsons producer, AI Jean said he was very sad to see the story in The Simpsons is becoming a reality.

“Regarding predictions, we have two kinds: one, a trivial one, for example, Don Mattingly whose hair is problematic in Homer at the Bat. And then predictions like this (Russian-Ukrainian war)," AI Jean told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday, February 25.

“I hate to say it but I was born in 1961. So 30 years of my life I lived with the specter of the Soviet Union. To me, this is more normal than a prediction. We just imagined things were going to get bad," Jean said again.

In that episode, Homer took part in military exercises on a nuclear submarine. He accidentally fired the captain of the submarine into Russian waters.

Russia declared the Soviet Union never disbanded and their troops took to the streets. AI Jean said this might happen in the future.

“Military aggression never goes away and you have to be vigilant. 1998, when this story aired, was probably the culmination of relations between the United States and Russia. But since (President Vladimir) Putin came in, almost everyone believed he was a bad guy and bad things would happen," Jean said.

"There's this kind of prediction when we reference something that happened, happened again - we hoped not but sadly it happened anyway," he said.

This isn't the first time The Simpsons' predictions have come true. Previously, they had told about Richard Branson's departure to space, the ending of Game of Thrones, to Lady Gaga's appearance in the Halftime Superbowl.
