Keropeng In Luka Can Actually Hazard The Skin

JAKARTA - Dry layer or runnyboard on the surface of the wound is often considered as a sign that the wound has started to heal. In fact, the fact is not so.

According to the General Chair of the Indonesian Surgeon Association (PABI), dr. Heri Setyanto, Sp.B, FINACS, keropeng is a part that can hinder the wound healing process. Especially if not treated properly.

Keropeng is formed from blood clots that dry up on the surface of the wound. If the keropeng is too thick and hard, then the new skin underneath cannot grow properly.

"It (the sticker) must be removed because the healing of the wound comes from the edge of the wound, not from the middle," said Doctor Heri in Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

"If there is a cracker, it will hamper the new skin's path to cover the wound," he added.

Doctor Heri explained that wound condensation naturally runs from the edge of the wound to the middle, not the other way around. Therefore, the surface of the wound should remain moist so that the new skin can grow properly and cover the wound evenly.

"Sometimes the skin above is dry, but the bottom is wet, there could be infection there," he said.

This condition is often not realized, especially with the detention circulating that there are runoffs, so signs of injuries are starting to recover. In fact, the inside of the wound may still be active and experience inflammation or infection that must be overcome.

"That's why if there is a keropeng, we'll see what it looks like first. If the keropeng is very hard, then when you touch it you feel something strange under it, there must be a focus of infection there," he explained.

Thus, it is recommended that if a rung on the wound appears, it should be cleaned or removed, so that the wound healing process runs normally.

However, these actions should not be taken carelessly. Cleaning rungs should use a sterile device so as not to cause new wounds or worsen inflammation, or you can ask for medical assistance.
