ShopeePay Supports Expansion of QRIS Tap Ecosystem, Offers Transportation Discount of up to IDR 5,000

JAKARTA - The acceleration of the digitalization of the payment system continues to be encouraged to support the mobility of the community which is increasingly connected with public transportation services.

One of the innovations that has been expanded is QRIS Tap, a payment method based on near field communication (NFC) technology that allows people to transact by simply attaching a mobile phone to a payment device.

Support for the expansion of the ecosystem comes from ShopeePay Indonesia. Through the ShopeePay application, users can enjoy discount promos of up to IDR 5,000 for every transaction using QRIS Tap during the period of 1-31 August 2026.

This promo allows users to get a discount on travel costs on various public transportation modes including TransJakarta, MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, LRT Jabodebek, and KRL which support QRIS Tap.

With the applicable promo and conditions, users even have the opportunity to enjoy free TransJakarta and KRL travel.

ShopeePay Indonesia President Director Eka Nilam Dari said support for QRIS Tap is part of the company's commitment to help strengthen the national digital payment ecosystem.

"The expansion of QRIS Tap opens up more practical payment options for the public, especially when using public transportation. The ShopeePay application supports the efforts of the Bank of Indonesia (BI) in expanding the adoption of inclusive, efficient, and secure digital payments, and helping people get used to using digital financial services in their daily activities," said Lala, his nickname through a press release received by VOI, Thursday, July 30.

For information, QRIS Tap was launched in November 2025. Unlike conventional QRIS payments which require users to scan a QR code, QRIS Tap allows payments by sticking an Android phone that has NFC features on a compatible payment terminal.

This technology can speed up the transaction process, especially on services with high frequency of use such as public transportation.

As its implementation expands, QRIS Tap is expected to provide a more practical payment experience while supporting the digitization of people's daily activities.

In transportation services, QRIS Tap has a Single Tap feature for one-time payment transactions as well as Tap In Tap Out for services with dynamic rates. The latter feature can be used for services whose rates are determined based on distance, time, or user profile, such as public transportation and parking.

Lala explained, to use QRIS Tap through the ShopeePay application, users need to ensure that the NFC feature on the Android phone is active.

After opening the ShopeePay application, users can select the QRIS menu, then select QRIS Tap and ShopeePay Balance as the payment method.

Users need to ensure a minimum balance of Rp. 25,000 before attaching their mobile phone to a terminal or payment device that supports QRIS Tap.

Transactions can be completed in seconds without having to scan a QR code.

Throughout August 2026, said Lala, ShopeePay users can get discounts of up to IDR 5,000 with a minimum transaction of IDR 1,000 for payment using QRIS Tap on various public transportation modes.

The promo can be used a maximum of five times per user for one month and is valid as long as the daily quota is available.

In addition to discounts, users have the opportunity to get ShopeePay Balance cashback up to IDR 3,500 according to the applicable terms and conditions.

"The promo can be used on various modes of transportation and other locations that support payment through QRIS Tap," he said.

Lala said the expansion of the payment service was part of the development of the ShopeePay ecosystem, which was not only targeting transportation transactions.

In one application, users can also make payments using QRIS scans, send money, top up balances, withdraw cash, buy credit and data packages, electricity tokens, game vouchers, streaming services, and pay various bills.

To provide additional protection, transactions are also supported by ShopeePay Protection.

The service provides protection against the risk of financial losses due to unauthorized online transactions or theft of funds stored in the ShopeePay account, with a guarantee of a refund of up to 100 percent of the balance according to the terms and conditions.

"We hope that with the wider application of QRIS Tap on public transportation, payment digitization will not only bring faster transactions, but also encourage people to get used to using digital financial services in their daily activities," he said.
