JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation admits that the weight bridge is not effective in handling vehicles that are more dimensional and more loaded (ODOL). This is because the effectiveness is only 0.3 percent.

This was conveyed by the Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan at the Press Background "Security as the Main Priority for Transportation" at the Head Office of the Ministry of Transportation, Thursday, August 21.

Aan said, after three months of socialization of ODOL vehicles, the effectiveness of the bridge was down from 5 percent to 0.3 percent. This means that not many trucks enter the weight bridge.

"Besides the extortion, the data we got was only 0.3 percent that entered the weight bridge. This means that the effectiveness of the current weight bridge is less effective. Previously, almost 5 percent had entered the weight bridge," said Aan.

Aan added that this weight bridge is actually the main gateway in the context of a legal approach to overload or overload.

However, continued Aan, due to low effectiveness, the Ministry of Transportation will divert the application of weight bridges with the Weigh in Motion (WIM) system.

"So with this WIM technology, the placement of the weighing equipment is not in the BPKB or not in the weight bridge area, but on the road. So that the car wants to enter, whether or not, remains captured by us and weighted by us," he said.

"Still can take action, still have to enter the weight bridge," he continued.

In addition, Aan said to reduce the number of ODOLs and also eradicate illegal levies aka extortion, the Ministry of Transportation together with the Police will enforce IT technology-based laws such as Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE).

"If there is an ETLE in the Police. The basis is for ETLE in the field of overloaded legal approach, we have to use a weighing tool that can be balanced while moving. If the weight bridge is static," he said.

Aan said, this ODOL supervision will be carried out dynamically. This means that vehicles do not need to stop, but the Ministry of Transportation can obtain data from the Automatic Pattern Recognition (APR) system.

"So that the vehicle's police number will be captured, it will be sent to our database. Later it will be found out who the owner of the vehicle is," he explained.
