A Total Of 2,400 Textile Industry Workers In Tangerang Have Been LAID Off

JAKARTA - The textile industry sector in the Tangerang Regency, Banten, has again reduced and cut off employment (PHK) for its 2,400 employees in line with the impact of the global crisis.

This is experienced by a company in the field of textiles for shoe products managed by PT Victory Chinglu Indonesia in Pasar Kemis, Tangerang Regency.

The head of the Tangerang Regency Manpower Office (Dinaker), Rudi Hartono, confirmed the wave of layoffs against thousands of employees carried out by the company.

"Yes, indeed, PT Chinglu has been experiencing problems for a long time, where the number of workers and orders are not balanced. So they have been holding back for a long time so that it doesn't happen," said Rudi in Tangerang, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 13.

He explained, as many as 2,400 workers who were affected by layoffs were based on the reasons the company was carrying out labor efficiency.

This step was also taken, as due to the impact of the problems and production situation in the company which has decreased due to the global crisis.

In addition, there are also workers who quit because they resigned, were disciplinary and retired from their tenure at the company.

"So in the end, the choice is to reduce employees, and the situation is that production or reduced orders have been experienced since last August 2024. They continue to survive by reducing working hours, reducing working hours so that layoffs do not occur," he said.

According to him, by facing a situation like this, PT Victory Chinglu, which is running in the textile sector, was forced to take steps to make efficiency to maintain the economic condition of the company.

"According to information from the company, around 2,400 employees were laid off and it started in early January 2025. And this has actually been discussed by the company since December 2024 with coordination with trade unions," he said.

Rudi said that regarding the fulfillment of workers' rights, discussions had been carried out with the government, labor unions and the company by producing several points of agreement, such as fulfilling the payment of workers' rights after being laid off and distributing the benefits of employment social security.

"In fact, the Chinglu Company is good for them to report on work that they will also follow the rules of the game where all employee rights are given as expected," he said.
