JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif said that Indonesia was committed to addressing issues related to energy access, smart and clean technology, and financing in the energy sector. Therefore, the government has also prepared a roadmap to achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target for the 2021-2060 period.

Furthermore, said Arifin, one of these roadmaps contains the issue of stopping the sale of conventional vehicles or those fueled by oil or fuel.

"We also encourage the use of electric vehicles with the target of stopping sales of conventional motorcycles in 2040 and conventional cars in 2050, as well as providing more massive public transportation," he said in a webinar, Thursday, October 21.

Not only that, this roadmap also contains a number of strategies that will be carried out, including the massive development of new and renewable energy. Then, retire fossil power plants.

"Retirement of the Fossil PLT is gradual according to the age of the generator or it can be faster (Early Retirement) with the right mechanism," he said.

Then, Arifin continued, optimizing the use of energy storage such as pump storage, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and hydrogen fuel cells gradually starting in 2031. Also, the option of using nuclear in 2045.

"The option to use nuclear is planned to start in 2045 with a capacity of up to 35 giga watts (GW) in 2060," he explained.

Arifin also said that the roadmap also contains increasing network reliability by building connectivity within and between islands. As well as, the development of smart grids and smart meters.

"Transformation through substitution of energy use through intensification of electric stoves, and the construction of a household gas network," he said.
