JAKARTA - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is studying adjustments to the highest retail price (HET) of MinyaKita following the increase in the price of crude palm oil (crude palm oil/CPO) to maintain supply stability and protect people's purchasing power.

"It is still under study, still under study," said Bapanas's Chief Secretary Sarwo Edhy when confirmed on the sidelines of the Export Release of Poultry and Derivatives to Japan, Singapore and Timor Leste in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 4.

The study was conducted after a statement emerged that the current crude palm oil price was above the price that became the basis for determining the MinyaKita price at the consumer level, namely Rp. 15,700 per liter.

According to him, one of the main considerations in the study is the movement of the global price of crude palm oil as well as the national production conditions as the world's largest producer.

In the domestic market obligation (DMO) policy, as much as 35 percent of the MinyaKita allocation is handed over to Perum Bulog for distribution.

Bulog is tasked with supplying MinyaKita to retailers in traditional markets so that prices can be kept stable at around Rp15,700 per liter.

Sarwo said that based on monitoring in markets that received supplies from Bulog, the price of MinyaKita was relatively even and in accordance with the highest retail price provisions.

Meanwhile, outside the Bulog distribution network, prices are still found to range from Rp17,000 to Rp18,000 per liter, although the number is said to be not much.

Bapanas emphasized that the realization of the distribution of domestic market obligations continues to be monitored so that distribution is more equitable and does not cause significant price disparities.

Regarding the study on the adjustment of the highest retail price, Bapanas said it would involve the palm oil business actors in the further discussion.

However, until now, the government has not summoned the manufacturers because it is still evaluating the field conditions so that the policies taken do not burden the community.

"Not yet, (there is a summons for manufacturers) This is just a discussion. We will see it first on the ground. Don't let us raise it but it will burden the community. So we are still in the study first. Yes, just a plan," said Sarwo.
