The Indonesian Shrimp Has Been Received Again By The US, KKP Targets To Send 200 Containers This Month

JAKARTA - The Republic of Indonesia's shrimp products have been received again into the United States (US) after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially appointed the Quality Agency of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) as a Certifying Entity (CE) for Cesium-137-free certification on these products.

In this regard, the KKP also targets the delivery of 200 units of shrimp containers to the US this month.

Head of the Marine and Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (BPPMHKP) KKP Ishartini said, as many as 100 containers are now in the scanning process at the Fish Processing Unit (UPI).

"And this November we are targeting more than 200 containers to be dispatched, which has met the requirements for a Cesium 137 (Cs-137) free certificate," Ishartini said at a press conference at the KKP office, Jakarta, Thursday, November 6.

As a Certifying Entity, said Ishartini, his party ensures that it will meet all the requirements provided by the FDA. Moreover, the US is the main market share of Indonesian shrimp products.

"Of course, this is all carried out in accordance with what is required for our shrimp to enter the United States," he said.

In the future, Ishartini hopes that his party can return the shrimp export target that has been set since the beginning of the year and can still penetrate the global market.

"Hopefully we can return the export target that has been targeted since the beginning of the year. We can continue to fill the American market because our largest shrimp (export) is there," explained Ishartini.

"Redang is one of the leading commodities of the KKP for export. If we have passed here (US market), later to other countries it will also be easier," he concluded.

As of October 31, 2025, the Cs-137 free certification scheme began to fully operate. The KKP together with the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten) and Customs and Excise carried out the release of seven containers of shrimp exports to the US with a volume of 106 tons worth 1.22 million US dollars or around Rp20.14 billion.

The initial export was carried out after the Indonesian government had met the procedures and requirements according to the provisions of the Yellow List and ensured that the container was Cs-137 free of contamination.
