Prepare A Budget Of IDR 20 Trillion To Remove Contribution Arrears, Purbaya Asks BPJS To Improve Management

JAKARTA - The government has prepared jumbo funds of up to Rp20 trillion to remove arrears in the contribution of participants of the Health Social Security Administration Agency (BPJS). The funds have entered the 2026 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa ensured that the budget was already there. Even so, Purbaya asked for the budget disbursement to also be accompanied by improved governance and system in BPJS.

"The Rp20 trillion is there, we have budgeted it. Just like this, we ask BPJS to also improve its management. There must also be a slight improvement there," Purbaya told reporters, Wednesday, October 22.

According to Purbaya, the government does not want such a large fund to be just a temporary solution. BPJS, he said, needs to fix a number of aspects, especially the efficiency of programs and information technology systems (IT) which are considered not running optimally.

"For example, they have revealed that there are many possible programs from the Ministry of Health that require people to buy expensive tools and mostly. So I said, it has been socialized with the Ministry of Health. We are lacking and that's it," he said.

In addition, Purbaya also highlighted the IT BPJS system which was considered too large but not yet effective. In fact, he said, BPJS has 200 workers in this field.

They apparently have 200 people who work at IT. It's already a computer company itself, it's really big. I said, yes, it has made it more optimal by integrating all their IT throughout Indonesia and using AI," he said.

Furthermore, Purbaya said the use of artificial intelligence (AI) would facilitate early detection of hospital claims that were unnatural.

So that the program later when the claims that are not clearly visible are immediately detected. For example, this illness should be this, this, this. Only the hospital there asks for other medicines. That's worth an investigation. That's what it will be done quickly," he said.

Purbaya targets the improvement of the system to start operating in the next six months. He even hopes that the IT BPJS Health system will later become one of the most sophisticated in the world.

So I hope that in the next six months it will work. They said they could. If that could be our IT, IT BPJS is IT, which will be the largest and best hospital system in the world. I want that," he said.
