JAKARTA - PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas targets the search for five workers trapped by landslides at the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) Mimika underground mine, Central Papua, to be completed in the next 4-5 days.
Tony said that at this time his party had started to enter an area believed to be the location for the trapped five Freeport workers.
"We've been trying to get into the area where we suspect the other five employees are still there. Maybe it's getting closer. Hopefully in 4-5 days we will be able to enter the location they thought they were," Tony said when met by reporters after attending the Indonesia Green Mineral Investment Forum (IGMIF) 2025 event in Jakarta, Thursday, October 2.
According to Tony, the obstacles faced by his team when they wanted to enter the location where five workers were trapped, namely the landslide was quite large.
As a result, the team had difficulty reaching the location.
"Because of that, right, the avalanche was huge. So, it was a bit difficult to penetrate it," he said.
For that, said Tony, his party in the next few days will focus on finding the five workers.
"So, our focus is on making rescues and evacuations from those who are still trapped inside," he explained.
