Canceled 50 Percent Of Electricity Discounts, Bahlil: Ask Those Who Have Announced

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia firmly revealed that he did not know anything about the plan to provide a 50 percent electricity discount in June-July to the public.

Not only during the planning process, Bahlil also admitted that he was not aware of the decision to cancel this policy. For this reason, he asked about the cancellation of the 50 percent discount to be asked to the parties who announced it.

"Regarding the electricity discount, ask those who have announced it. I did, from the start you asked, I said I had not received confirmation and did not know. Because I don't know, I also said I don't know. Ask the announcer," Bahlil told the media crew, Tuesday, June 3.

Previously on a separate occasion, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dwi Anggia said that from the start there was no official request or invitation to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as a technical ministry to provide input in the process of determining the policy.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is not in any team or forum that discusses the policy of discounting electricity rates in the period June and July 2025," he said in a statement to the media, Tuesday, June 3.

Anggia firmly said that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is basically ready to provide official input on the policy formulation process, especially those that have an impact on the welfare of the wider community.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is always ready to provide input if asked officially in every policy formulation process that has an impact on the wider community, including subsidies and electricity compensation policies," said Dwi.

Just so you know, previously the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that the government had again held a 50 percent discount on electricity rates for customers below 1,300 KWh.

The incentive, which is believed to be a national economic stimulus, was given to approximately 79.3 million household customers with electricity below 1,300 VA.

"This stimulus is expected to encourage economic growth in the second quarter. So, we take advantage of this momentum to create several programs. Well, these are some programs that are prepared, of course, to encourage growth through what can be increased through consumption," said Airlangga in Jakarta, Saturday, May 24.
