JAKARTA - Executive Director of the Communication Department of Bank Indonesia (BI) Ramdan Denny Prakoso said that the nominal Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) service transactions reached IDR 80.88 trillion throughout January 2025.

"QRIS in January 2025 the nominal transaction reached Rp80.88 trillion," said Ramdan Denny Prakoso, quoted by Antara, in Jakarta, Monday, February 24.

In addition, he said that last month's QRIS transaction volume was recorded at 790.79 million transactions with a total of 36.57 million merchants.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said that the volume of transactions through QRIS during January 2025 increased by 170.1 percent year on year (yoy).

"The volume of digital payment transactions through the QR Indonesian Standard, QRIS, continues to grow rapidly by 170.1 percent year on year supported by an increase in the number of users and merchants," said Perry Warjiyo.

To improve QRIS services as a means of payment that facilitates transactions quickly and mass, Bank Indonesia is currently developing a Near Field Communication (NFC)-based QRIS Tap.

BI has conducted a trial implementation of QRIS Tap on Damri transportation modes in December 2024. Gradually, all modes of transportation operating in Jabodetabek are targeted to be integrated with the new payment method.

BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta stated that his party is trying to accelerate the launch of the service innovation from the initial plan for release at the end of the first quarter of 2025 to mid-March.

"Yesterday we said maybe (QRIS Tap was launched) at the end of the first quarter. Well, it seems we can accelerate that," he said.

He stated that later QRIS Tap users would no longer need to scan or scan the QRIS barcode because by simply bringing the device closer to the payment machine, they can already make payments.

BI plans to launch the QRIS innovation in conjunction with the policy of reducing costs imposed on business owners or merchants every time the use of QRIS (MDR) from 0.4 percent to 0 percent.

"The policy of the QRIS price scheme for the criteria for merchants from the Public Service Agency and Public Service Obligation from 0.4 percent to 0 percent will take effect from March 14, 2025, along with the launching of QRIS Tap," said Filianingsih Hendarta.
