JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) will soon launch a Near Field Communication (NFC) or QRIS Tap Quick Response Code (QRIS) service on March 14, 2025. This service will be used on various modes of transportation, such as KRL, MRT, and Damri.

Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo said that the implementation of QRIS Tap will be launched in conjunction with the reduction in transaction fees for QRIS for government public services.

"The policy of the QRIS price scheme for the criteria for merchants of the Public Service Agency [BLU] and Public Service Obligation [PSO] from 0.4 percent to 0 percent which will take effect from March 14, 2025, along with launching QRIS Tap or without scanning," he said at a press conference, Wednesday, February 19.

Meanwhile, BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta said that users no longer need to scan the QR code simply by bringing the cellphone closer to the QRIS infrastructure at the merchant, transactions will be directly connected, as long as the balance is sufficient.

"So later ladies and gentlemen, there is no need to scan anymore, just walk closer to the cellphone, go straight in, the important thing is that there are funds," he said on the same occasion.

Filianingsih said the use of QRIS Tap is part of digital innovation that supports the 2030 Blueprint Indonesian Payment System (BSPI).

"QRIS Tap is an innovation, so this is a breakthrough which is one of the initiatives of the Blue Print Indonesian Payment System 2030 and we also support the digital transformation program from the government, especially for transportation," he said.

Filianingsih said that Bank Indonesia also supports digital transformation programs from the government as well as especially for transportation.
