JAKARTA - Transportation and industry are said to be the sectors that emit the most carbon emissions in Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia is targeting net zero emissions (NZE) in 2060.

The Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eniya Listiani Dewi, said that transportation and industry are the sectors with the largest contribution of carbon emissions at this time.

"From various industrial sectors, transportation, electricity or power plants and commodities, here there is an unusually large emission sector in industry and transportation," said Eniya when giving a speech at the Carbon Neutrality (CN) Mobility Event by Toyota: Beyond Zero Festival at Gambir Expo, Jakarta, Friday, February 14.

"So, transportation is an important key holder to reduce emissions," he continued.

Eniya also warned that if the emission reduction in the sector is not achieved until 2030, the NZE target in 2060 will not be achieved.

"Our six emissions were promised in 2030. So, our emissions are still increasing, yes, until 2030. But if after 2030 it doesn't go down, this is what is called net zero emissions 2060, so omon-omon later," said Eniya.

According to Eniya, this is the biggest challenge for the government and collaboration is needed by all parties.

"This is our challenge in the next 5 years. So, in the next 5 years, if the peak emission continues to grow, surely the net zero will be right. And this is what we need to pay attention to. The efforts are not only the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources who are responsible, but all stakeholders including ladies and gentlemen," he said.

In addition, Eniya welcomed the tagline 'Beyond Zero' carried by Toyota. According to him, Toyota has made a real contribution to reducing emissions as launched by the government.

"Well, Beyond Zero has become a tagline. This is good for us to work together to (reduce carbon emissions)," he concluded.

To note, Toyota Indonesia collaborates with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), industry players, Pertamina, PLN, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Agroindustri Research and Development Center, PT Serasi Auto Raya (SERA), PT Mobility Digital Indonesia (MODA) and Toyota Tsusho in this event.

Then, there are also academics such as, the UGM Institute of Technology (ITB), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Singapore National University (NUS). Including, Zero Board startups and stakeholders who provide innovative solutions through products, services and operational activities that not only eliminate emissions, but also contribute to environmental sustainability and energy security in Indonesia.

Beyond Zero: Mobility for Carbon Netrality is an example of a positive collaboration between Toyota Indonesia and the Ministry of Industry. Given, this event became a bridge for the Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit (AIGIS) organized by the Ministry of Industry.
