JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) encourages the transformation of green and smart ports to strengthen the logistics system, facilitate food distribution, increase service efficiency, and support sustainable national economic development.
"We continue to encourage the transformation of national ports through the development of sustainable green and smart ports," said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwaganhi, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, July 18.
The Minister of Transportation emphasized this during the "Green and Smart Port Initiatives - ASRI 2026" event in Gresik, East Java.
Through this program, the Ministry of Transportation presents a port system based on the integration of environmental sustainability and technological innovation.
Dudy said the ASRI green and smart port program (Safe, Healthy, Resik, Beautiful) 2026 is one of the important achievements in realizing a more sustainable port.
This step is an important part of strengthening the national logistics system, maintaining the smooth distribution of food, and supporting Indonesia's economic growth.
"We encourage other ports to immediately follow this ASRI movement, so that the President's program can be achieved and in the future also includes all transportation activities," said Dudy.
The strengthening of the ASRI port includes energy efficiency, carbon emission reduction, waste management, operational digitization, and logistics system integration to make the port greener, smarter, and more competitive.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Transportation would continue to encourage the implementation of ASRI values in all transportation sectors.
"In the future, not only sea transportation, but also other transportation activities can follow, and we will continue to encourage this so that the ASRI movement can be achieved quickly," explained Dudy.
The program is also in line with the national development direction which places food security as a priority. A reliable logistics system is the key to ensuring that food distribution takes place quickly, efficiently, safely, and evenly throughout Indonesia.
As a form of appreciation for the commitment of port personnel, in 2026 the Green and Smart Port ASRI 2026 will be held again. The award program is designed to encourage ports in Indonesia to implement the principles of sustainability, digitization, operational efficiency and responsible governance.
From 2019 to 2025, there have been 41 ports that have participated in the green and smart port assessment. This year, there are eight ports that received the Green and Smart Port 2026 award.
The eighth includes PT Petrokimia Gresik, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera, PT Vale Indonesia, PT Pelindo Petikemas - TPK Banjarmasin, PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal, PT Pelindo Multi Terminal - Branch Tanjung Intan and Bitung Petikemas Terminal.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that ports have a strategic role not only as a place to unload goods, but also as a main node in the national food logistics system.
"Ports connect production centers, industrial areas, distribution centers, to consumption areas, so it is very important to determine the smoothness of supply, reduce price disparities and maintain food stability," said Zulkifli.
Zulkifli said that the transformation of the logistics sector can no longer be done in conventional ways. According to him, the big challenges ahead must be answered with gradual updates so that national competitiveness is stronger.
