Prabowo Signs Irrigation And Food Self-Sufficiency Presidential Instruction, Asks Nine Ministries/Institutions To Coordinate

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto officially signed Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 2 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Development, Improvement, Rehabilitation and Operations and Maintenance of the Irrigation Network to Support Food Self-Sufficiency.

In the regulation, Prabowo instructed nine ministries and institutions to be able to take coordination steps according to their respective duties, functions and authorities to support the acceleration of achieving food self-sufficiency.

The nine ministries/agencies include the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Coordinating Minister for Food, the Minister for National Development/Bappenas, the Minister for Public Works, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Home Affairs and the Governors and the relevant Regents/Mayors.

The implementation of accelerated development, improvement, rehabilitation and operation and maintenance of irrigation networks is set in 14 provinces. Consisting of Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Bangka Belitung Islands, South Sumatra and Lampung.

Then, Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi and South Papua as well as other provinces that need to be improved the performance of irrigation networks.

At the same time, President Prabowo also instructed nine related ministries/agencies to be able to plan and provide a budget to realize the development of food self-sufficiency support.

"(As well as) overcoming obstacles and obstacles in the implementation of accelerated development, improvement, rehabilitation and operation and maintenance of irrigation networks to support food self-sufficiency," the regulation reads, quoted on Tuesday, February 11.

In addition, Prabowo also gave special instructions to each relevant ministry/institution. One example, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure is asked to carry out synchronization and coordination of controlling the acceleration of development and maintenance of irrigation networks to support food self-sufficiency.

Prabowo also asked the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati to provide the facilities and technical support for budgeting needed to carry out these implementation activities.

Not only that, Sri Mulyani was also asked to accelerate the implementation of development grants to support the development of food self-sufficiency supporting infrastructure from the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Home Affairs to the Regional Government.

Meanwhile, Prabowo also asked the Minister of Public Works to be able to accelerate the construction of irrigation networks to support food self-sufficiency with the Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas.

The Minister of Public Works was also asked to identify activities, formulate election criteria and draw up indications of locations in accelerated development activities to integrate funding needs in planning and budgeting in accordance with the stipulated budget cycle stages.
