SLB And Star Energy Geothermal Announce Technology Collaboration

JAKARTA - global energy technology company SLB, and leading geothermal developer Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of Indonesia's largest renewable energy company, Barito Renewables (BREN), announced a collaboration agreement to accelerate advanced technology in the development of geothermal assets.

This collaboration will combine Star Energy Geothermal's powerful skills in geothermal development with SLB's decades of experience in developing and industrializing technological solutions for the energy sector. Cooperating closely, SLB and Star Energy Geothermal aim to implement technology that can change the economy of conventional geothermal projects and increase the recovery rate of geothermal assets.

"In developing technology for the geothermal industry, collaboration with customers is very important, to focus on situations that have the most significant economic impact," said Irlan Amir, Vice President, Renewables and Energy Efficiency, SLB, in a statement, Thursday, January 23.

"In an industry where risk and levelized cost are considered high, we welcome the collaboration with Star Energy Geothermal to deliver breakthrough technologies that will reduce project risk and increase the overall project economy of this clean and flexible energy source."

SLB has previously collaborated with Star Energy Geothermal in technology solutions that optimize the placement of wells and use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and economy for drilling geothermal wells. Based on this collaboration agreement, SLB and Star Energy Geothermal will focus on developing and implementing technology for subsurface characterization, drilling, and geothermal asset production.

"Our vision is to be one of the largest and leading geothermal companies in the world," said Hendra Soetjipto Tan, President Director of Barito Renewables and Group CEO of Star Energy Geothermal.

Currently, he said, his party is proud to manage the geothermal installed electric capacity of 886 MW. In line with our strategic expansion to support the energy transition, according to him, this goal will be fulfilled by utilizing advanced technology in increasing current and future asset efficiency and economy.

"With so much technology that SLB has and our expertise in the development and operational management of geothermal resources, we are confident that together we can overcome technical and economic challenges that hinder the development of geothermal projects more widely around the world," said Hendra.
