BTN Distributes IDR 4.14 Billion To Build And Renovate Houses Of Worship In 2024

JAKARTA - As an effort to complement facilities and infrastructure that supports social life, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) has disbursed funds of IDR 4.14 billion for the construction and improvement of houses of worship in various regions in Indonesia during 2024. This is in line with the role of BTN as a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) which has realized social impacts through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program.

BTN Corporate Secretary Ramon Armando said that the construction and renovation of houses of worship is part of BTN's commitment to improve the welfare and quality of life of the Indonesian people. Moreover, houses of worship have become a means that must always be present side by side with residents' residences, as are various other facilities that support daily life, such as schools, hospitals, markets, and others.

The house of worship is an inseparable means in the life of the Indonesian people because improving the quality of life is also related to the spiritual aspect. In line with BTN's aspiration to become a partner for empowering community welfare, building and repairing houses of worship is a form of BTN's presence to meet the needs of suitable, safe and comfortable public facilities," Ramon said in a written statement, Friday, January 17.

Ramon explained that BTN's decision to help build and renovate houses of worship in various regions in Indonesia was based on the large number of houses of worship that were not feasible because of the old age condition or needed to be improved the quality of building materials, thus having an impact on the safety and comfort of the worshipers.

Throughout 2024, BTN distributed TJSL funds for the construction and renovation of houses of worship through a network of branch offices and head offices in various regions. BTN started the distribution of the TJSL on February 5, 2024 for the construction of the second phase of the Sirojul Mubtadiin Al Fikri Islamic Education Foundation in Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta. While the last distribution was carried out on December 24, 2024 for Musholla Roudlotul Muttaqin.

Outside Jakarta, the distribution of TJSL BTN for the construction and renovation of houses of worship reaches to eastern Indonesia, for example in this case the Ambon Branch Office (KC), which distributed TJSL funds for the construction of the Maluku Protestant Church, the GPM Congregation of the Olat House in Central Maluku Regency. For Hindus, BTN KC Denpasar has also provided assistance several times with TJSL funds, one of which is the construction of the Dang Caller Wall. Kahyangan Pura Luhur Kubontingguh in Tabanan, Bali.

Meanwhile, the distribution of TJSL funds was also carried out through the BTN Sharia Business Unit, namely BTN Syariah, for the Al Amin Mosque infrastructure in Datinawong Village in Lamongan Regency, East Java.

In the future, Ramon said, BTN will continue to carry out its commitment to realizing social impacts at the local community level, including with the help of building and renovating houses of worship. This commitment is contained in the People & Community', which is one of the components in the framework of the principles of environmental sustainability, social, and governance (Environment, Social, and Governance/ESG) that BTN has built for the long term or BTN ESG Framework 2025-2028.

The focus of the TJSL BTN program is also contained in one of BTN's missions in 2025, namely 'Implementing good corporate governance practices and sustainable business innovation for community welfare and environmental sustainability'. Through this mission, BTN hopes to always play a role in social empowerment, so that it can strengthen the company's position to achieve ESG Champion status with an AAA rating,' Ramon said.
