Minister Of Industry Agus Calls Negotiations With Apple Not Easy: They Will Put Their Interests In Place

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said negotiations with Apple which will take place on January 7-8, 2025 will not run easily.

Agus assessed that Apple as a company definitely wants a big advantage.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry has principles that must be adhered to. According to him, this is intended for the benefit of the nation and state.

"With the actions that I have formed, negotiations will not be easy. Apple will place their interests or interest, what we can read is how much profit, how much money," said Agus at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, Friday, January 3.

The principles held by the Ministry of Industry are first, paying attention to Apple's investment in other countries, secondly paying attention to investments in other mobile phone, computer and tablet (HKT) manufacturers in Indonesia.

Third, pay attention to added value and income for Indonesia. Fourth, pay attention to the absorption of labor in Apple's supply chain industry ecosystem in Indonesia.

"How to find a common ground or win-win solution between the government and Apple is an art in itself from negotiations. However, I assure you that we should apply the interests of the nation and state," he said.

For information, the Indonesian government provides two options to Apple regarding investment plans.

This investment is also a condition for Apple to be able to market iPhone 16 products in the country.

First option, following the scheme 1, from the calculation of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), namely building production facilities (factories) in Indonesia, and negotiations through the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming.

Second, follow scheme 3, namely an innovation scheme, with a note having to submit proposals every 3 years (3 years cycle), negotiations through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).
