Jaecoo J7 Recall, Hundreds of Units Risk Losing Power Suddenly

JAKARTA - A total of 171 units of the Jaecoo J7 SUV were recalled or withdrawn from circulation because of a potential production defect in the electrical wiring. The problem is feared to make the vehicle lose power suddenly until the engine dies while driving.

The information on the recall was submitted to the Department of Infrastructure on August 5, 2026. In its notification, Jaecoo explained that there was a potential for damage to the wiring under the front seat.

"Due to a production defect, the wiring harness under the front seat can rub against the bracket of the front seat support crossbar and become damaged," the notice reads, as reported by Drive, Monday, August 10.

Damage to the cable system has the potential to disrupt the vehicle's electrical system. This condition can even cause a sudden loss of driving power or the vehicle's engine to die without warning the driver.

"As a result, this can cause sudden loss of propulsion and/or engine failure without warning," he continued.

This situation is considered to increase the risk of accidents, especially when it occurs when the vehicle is speeding on the highway. In addition to endangering the driver and passengers, vehicles that suddenly lose power can also pose a risk to other road users.

This recall includes Jaecoo J7 production in 2025 and 2026 with a total of 171 vehicles affected. Vehicle owners on the recall list will receive a notification from Jaecoo.

In the notification it is stated that the affected vehicle owners will be contacted by Jaecoo in writing. Furthermore, the owner is asked to make an appointment with the nearest Jaecoo dealer to carry out an inspection and repair of the problematic parts.

The repair will be carried out at no cost to vehicle owners. A complete list of vehicle identification numbers (VIN) that are included in the recall program has also been provided to ensure that the affected vehicles are included.
