JAKARTA - Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Agency (BKPM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani conveyed the latest developments regarding investment from an electronics company from the United States (US), Apple, in Indonesia.
Rosan's explanation was conveyed when answering a number of questions from members of Commission XII DPR RI regarding Apple's investment.
According to him, in general Apple's investment in Indonesia is still very small.
Therefore, when meeting with Apple recently, Rosan asked for a new investment commitment of US$1 billion or equivalent to Rp15.95 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,957).
He also asked for the investment commitment in the form of a written statement from Apple.
"Regarding that Apple is frankly their investment, it is still small in us, very small. So, I ask God willing, for the first stage, I will get a written statement. I ask them to invest 1 billion US dollars for the first stage," said Rosan during a working meeting with Commission XII DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, as reported by Commission XII's official YouTube broadcast on Wednesday, December 4.
"So, I ask them to implement a written statement," he continued.
Rosan hopes that the investment commitment can be obtained within the next one week.
"Hopefully within maybe one week I will be able to get that commitment, which I will leave to the Ministry of Industry," he said.
According to Rosan, the government is indeed trying to make Apple's investment in Indonesia have the principle of benefits and justice.
"We'll just see if it's fair, he (Apple) gets the principle of benefits here, yes, invest here. Create jobs here and also the most important thing is how the global value chain or supply chain also moves investments with us," said Rosan.
"Hopefully within maybe this week I've got their commitment from them because we are also proactive in talking to them," he concluded.
Previously, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Apple's 100 million US dollars investment had not met the principle of justice.
"Based on today's leadership meeting and after studying the proposal proposed by Apple, through a technocratic assessment, the Ministry of Industry considers that the proposal submitted by Apple has not met the fair aspect," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in a written statement, Monday, November 25.
Agus explained that there are four fair aspects that have not been fulfilled by the giant company.
