Centratama Group Completes More Than 2,500 Kilometers Of Optical Fiber Cable Line In 13 Cities In Indonesia

JAKARTA - PT Centratama Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk (Centratama), a subsidiary of EdgePoint Group (EdgePoint), a leading independent telecommunications infrastructure company based in ASEAN, announced today that they have successfully completed the construction of more than 2,500 kilometers of fiber optic cables (Fibre Optic) in 13 locations on the three largest and most populous islands in Indonesia, namely Java, Sumatra, and North and South Sulawesi.

Centratama provides comprehensive support in order to fiberize Cellular Operator Networks, from development to commercialization, fulfillment of increasing demand for quality data connectivity and higher network capacity.

This 2,500-kilometer optical fiber cable has connected more than 1,000 locations, of which 178 are the In-Building-Coverage (IBC) locations, which provide the much-needed backhaul capacity improvements in the region. This upgraded Fiber-to-the-Tower (FTTT) infrastructure strengthens network performance and supports 4G and 5G expansions, enabling cellular network operators (MNOs) to provide faster and more reliable services for their users with more efficient and lower cost networks.

Raymond Yan, Chief Executive Officer of Centratama Group said, with the completion of this project, his party has achieved a 2,500 km fiberization target by the end of 2024. Fiberization is an ideal infrastructure investment because it provides greater data transmission capacity, lower latency, and more stable connectivity than transmission using Microwave.

In addition, fiberization supports application growth that requires high data, fast internet access, and new technologies such as 5G and edge computing. This increase in infrastructure is also important to meet the increasing demand from consumers and businesses, both for streaming, IoT, and smart manufacturing.
