PURWAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita issued a new regulation regarding the imposition of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) mandatory for 16 industrial products, with the aim of providing quality guarantees to the community.

Minister of Industry Agus said the regulation contained in the Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) scheme regulates the regularity assessment process which includes audits and testing on products that have a major impact on safety, security, health and the environment.

"This is an important instrument in ensuring that the products produced by the industry will meet the established standards," Agus said in his virtual remarks in Purwakarta, West Java, Monday, October 14.

Agus said, to support the implementation of the 16 regulations, his party has appointed a Compliance Assessment Institute (LPK) consisting of 20 Product Certification Institutions (LSPro) and 28 test laboratories that are ready to carry out product certification and testing.

According to him, the LPK plays an important role in ensuring that the products circulating in the market have met applicable standards and provided quality guarantees to consumers.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry Andi Rizaldi said, the new 16 Permenperins were intended to regulate pretesting steel wire products, calcium carbides, valves, stoves, LPG gas stove hoses, ceramic tiles, carrier sprayers, safety shoes, sodium tripolyphosphate, aluminum sulfate, zinc oxides and cement.

He said, if accumulated to date, the Ministry of Industry has announced 44 draft Permenperin. In detail, 16 Permenperin have been issued and 28 draft Permenperin in the process of issuing.

"This rule needs to be implemented immediately. Therefore, in the near future the Ministry of Industry will also carry out socialization from the 16 Regulations of the Minister of Industry which have been signed by the Minister of Industry (Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita)," he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry noted that it already has 5,300 SNIs aimed at various industrial sectors, and of these 130 of them have mandatory SNI status.
