Inalum To Disburse 2 Billion US Dollars Bangun Smelter Aluminum In Mempawah, Completed 2028

PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum will build an aluminum smelter located in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan.

President Director of BUMN Mining Holding MIND ID Hendi Prio Santoso said the smelter to be built is expected to cost US $ 2 billion.

"Later, the aluminum smelter will be around 2 billion dollars," said Hendi in Mempawah, quoted on Wednesday, September 25.

He continued, the smelter to be built in the same area as the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) has a production capacity of 600,000 aluminum ions per year,

"The capacity is 600,000 tons. Later it will be under Inalum," he continued.

Hendi said the smelter construction process would be carried out in conjunction with the SGAR Phase II Final Investment Decision (FID).

However, he said, unlike the FID SGAR, which is planned to be completed in 2027, this aluminum smelter is targeted for completion in 2028.

"We will try the aluminum smelter FID in the same period (with SGAR Phase II) but it will be completed in 2028," said Hendi.

Hendi said the development of SGAR Phase II would begin in early 2025.

For this reason, he targets the settlement of investment decisions (FID) by the end of 2024.
