The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), as the manager of the dam, is known to have approved an increase in the capacity of solar power plants (PLTS) floating on several dams.

Energy Conservation Director of EBTKE, Hendra Iswahyudi said, by utilizing floating photovoltage (PV) on several dam surfaces owned by the Ministry of PUPR, his party could accelerate the additional 14 GWs.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has received approval from the Minister of PUPR to increase the installed capacity of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) that utilizes reservoirs belonging to the Ministry of PUPR," he said at the Bakohumas Forum in Bandung, quoted on Friday, September 13.

Hendra added that the approval from the Ministry of PUPR opened up great opportunities for the use of reservoir surfaces to produce renewable energy.

"Minister Basuki has written to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources that he agreed to increase the percentage coverage of lakes or reservoirs that can be utilized, from previously only 5 percent to 25 percent," explained Hendra.

Hendra also explained that the potential of 14.7 GW from 257 reservoirs is spread across various areas such as Java-Bali, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Nusa Tenggara.

"Well, of course, this must be inventoried, yes, because between the potential, the readiness of the electricity network, and when to enter the RUPTL in accordance with COD, it has been communicated with Gatrik and PLN. So, later we just have to see when it is included in the plan," continued Hendra.

Based on the records of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the potential of the reservoir owned by the Ministry of PUPR for the installation of floating PLTS reached 89.37 GW, spread over 293 locations.

Of that number, 257 locations with a potential of 14.7 GW are property belonging to the Ministry of PUPR. The distribution of the reservoir is as follows:

- Java-Bali: 9,076.95 MW (114 locations)

- Sumatra: 1,967.56 MW (17 locations)

- Kalimantan: 690.22 MW (11 locations)

- Sulawesi: 1,646.84 MW (15 locations)

- Maluku-Nusa Tenggara: 1,320.14 MW (100 locations)

Meanwhile, the potential in 36 lake locations of 74.66 GW is divided as follows:

- Java-Bali: 641.3 MW (2 locations)

- Sumatra: 34,867.9 MW (12 locations)

- Kalimantan: 2,437.9 MW (3 locations)

- Sulawesi: 24,415.6 MW (6 locations)

- Maluku-Papua-Nusa Tenggara: 12.302.4 MW (13 locations)

"As of July 2024, the capacity installed by this floating PLTS has reached 193.01 MW," concluded Hendra.
