Retired As Jokowi's Minister, Basuki Hadimuljono Wants To Serve In The World Of Education

JAKARTA - Basuki Hadimuljono will soon retire as Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) in October 2024.

It is known that he has served as Minister of PUPR for a decade in the Joko Widodo (Jokowi) government.

The media crew also asked Basuki what he would do after he no longer served as Minister of PUPR.

He immediately laughed at the news.

"Yes, I'll be able to learn later," said Basuki while laughing when met by reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 11.

However, the Acting Head of the IKN Authority was reluctant to comment further on this matter.

The point, said Basuki, was that he only wanted to teach to fill his retirement period.

"I want to teach, just one lesson," he added.

Meanwhile, Basuki Hadimuljono became Minister of PUPR for two periods of President Jokowi's administration or since 2014.

Basuki also became President Jokowi's confidant in building the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

Later, after the Head of the IKN Authority Bambang Susantono resigned in June 2024, Basuki was appointed by Jokowi as the Acting Head of the IKN Authority.

He is an official who started his career as a civil servant (PNS) of the Ministry of Public Works. At that time, he was still 25 years old.

In this agency, Basuki had the opportunity to continue his education to master and doctoral levels with scholarships at Colorado State University, United States.

The man who was born in Surakarta, November 5, 1954, completed his master's education at the age of 35 and earned a doctorate at 38 years.

After that, he returned to Indonesia and took up several important positions.

Starting from the Head of the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Public Works for the period 2005-2007.

The Inspector General of the Ministry of Public Works has become the Director General of Spatial Planning at the Ministry of Public Works.

After more than 31 years of devoteing himself to the Ministry of Public Works, Jokowi finally appointed Basuki as Minister of Public Works and Public Housing in 2014 in the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla Working Cabinet.

Showing his optimal performance, Basuki was again trusted by Jokowi to become Minister of PUPR for Jokowi Ma'ruf Amin's cabinet for the 2019-2024 period.

Previously, Basuki shed tears when he said goodbye to Commission V of the DPR, on Monday, September 9, 2024.

He thanked the ranks of Commission V of the DPR for supervising the performance of the Ministry of PUPR for the last 10 years.

"Dear and respected, ladies and gentlemen of Commission V of the DPR RI, I on behalf of the PUPR extended family including centers in all provinces would like to thank you for all the supervision you have given, the attention given to PUPR," said Basuki.

According to Basuki, the working meeting (Raker) with Commission V of the DPR RI really helped him in his work.

"Even though every meeting, I leave, I will definitely run out. But, it turns out that the working meeting is very helpful, very encouraging me, especially as a minister to correct our leaders, echelon I," he said.
