Trade Minister Zulhas: Young People Potentially Encourage The Use Of Local Products

JAKARTA - Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said the younger generation is one aspect that has the potential to encourage the use of domestic products.

"National economic growth in 2024 is in the range of 4.5-5.5 percent, along with the continued development of national strategic projects. And the trade balance has experienced successive surpluses," said Zulkifli Hasan as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 6.

He said that the role of the younger generation in encouraging the use of domestic products is very important, one of which is by echoing the proud national movement made in Indonesia through digital content. In an effort to support economic growth.

"Then the younger generation can also be used as ambassadors for local products by buying and using local products. Because the productive age population has great purchasing power and is a potential target market," he said.

He explained that the great potential of the younger generation as users of domestic products was also supported by the great potential development of Indonesia's digital economy, which in 2023 reached 82 billion US dollars, where internet users in March 2023 reached 215.63 million people.

"Then five digital economy sectors that grew, such as e-commerce, whose transaction value reached Rp453.75 trillion in 2023, fintech, edutech, healthech, and online media, which were not far from utilizing the younger generation," he said.

He added, on the 2023 national online shopping day, online traders grew 6 percent and local product transactions reached IDR 12.3 trillion.

"Seeing this potential, of course, digital literacy and promotion of the proud movement to use Indonesian products to young people are still being carried out, so that the younger generation apart from being consumers can as those promoting domestic products," he added.
