The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the construction of the Jailolo People's Market in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku.

This market development was carried out by the North Maluku Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR.

The construction of the Jailolo People's Market will be carried out starting in September 2023 and completed in July 2024. The budget allocated for the construction of a market with a land area of 13,607 square meters is IDR 49.19 billion.

It is known that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Jailolo People's Market is divided into 3 buildings. Among them, Block A covering an area of 2,016 square meters which has a function as a vegetable market has been reconstructed by a new building.

Meanwhile, Block B covering an area of 1,274 square meters consisting of 2 floors of basic food kiosks is handled through rehabilitation/renovation. Meanwhile, for Block C covering an area of 1,848 square meters consisting of 2 floors of the fish market and kiosks have been handled through the reconstruction of new buildings.

The scope of work includes preparation work, health and work safety (K3), structural work (Blok A and Block C) as well as architectural work and MEP. Construction and rehabilitation are carried out by contractor PT Cimendang Sakti Kontindo and construction management by PT Estik Griya Consultant.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said market development/rehabilitation was carried out by increasing market function as a trade center. Thus, the community becomes safer and more comfortable in carrying out buying and selling transactions.

"It is hoped that quality market infrastructure can be directly felt by the benefits. Especially in ensuring the distribution of basic commodities and helping to move the real sector or MSMEs that are evenly distributed to remote villages throughout Indonesia," Basuki said in a written statement, quoted Wednesday, September 4.

Meanwhile, the Head of North Maluku BPPW Firman Aksara said that currently the Jailolo People's Market has been utilized and filled with around 380 traders. This market has an important role in driving and growing the economy of the people in West Halmahera Regency.

"The rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Jailolo People's Market is an effort in realizing the people's market as a quality and representative people's trade infrastructure with buildings that are comfortable, clean, neat and integrated. So, it is hoped that it can improve the local economy, especially in the buying and selling sector in West Halmahera Regency," he said.
