BPS Reveals Annual Inflation of 2.12 Percent in August 2024

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that annual or year-on-year (yoy) inflation in August 2024 was 2.12 percent. This figure is lower when compared to August 2023 which was 3.27 percent.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Pudji Ismartini said that annual inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by the increase in most expenditure group indices.

"Namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 3.39 percent, the clothing and footwear group by 1.19 percent, the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group by 0.57 percent," he said at a Press Conference in Jakarta, Monday, September 2.

Furthermore, the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group by 1.05 percent, the health group by 1.72 percent, the transportation group by 1.42 percent.

Kempersen, recreation, sports, and culture group by 1.52 percent, education group by 1.83 percent, food and beverage/restaurant provision group by 2.24 percent, personal care and other services group by 6.04 percent.

Meanwhile, the expenditure groups that experienced a decrease in the index were: information, communication, and financial services group by 0.16 percent.

Pudji said that there was annual inflation with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.06.

Meanwhile, the highest annual provincial inflation occurred in the Papua Pegunungan Province at 5.05 percent with a CPI of 110.78 and the lowest occurred in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province at 1.02 percent with a CPI of 103.78.

Meanwhile, the highest annual district/city inflation occurred in South Minahasa Regency at 7.75 percent with a CPI of 108.61 and the lowest occurred in West Bangka Regency at 0.11 percent with a CPI of 101.11.

Meanwhile, annual district/city deflation occurred in South Central Timor Regency at 0.88 percent with a CPI of 103.99.

For information, on a monthly basis, there was deflation in August 2024 which was recorded at 0.03 percent on a monthly basis or month to month (mom) or lower when compared to June 2024 at 0.18 percent. Meanwhile, inflation in the calendar year or year to date (ytd) was 0.87 percent.
